Hollyoaks star Gerard McCarthy has revealed that he would love to compete on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 29-year-old, best known for his soap role as cross-dresser Kris Fisher, joked that taking part in the BBC ballroom show would be an ideal way to find love.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz, McCarthy commented: "Now that I'm looking for a girlfriend I'm going to appear on Strictly Come Dancing. That seems to be the way for everyone to find a partner these days!

"I would definitely go on Strictly, because I'm a massive fan of the show. It would have been more difficult for me to go on it when Arlene Phillips was there, because she's a really good friend of mine."

A number of Strictly stars have begun relationships after being paired up for the programme, including Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna in last year's series.

McCarthy will bow out of Hollyoaks later this year in order to pursue new projects
