Jones and Chadwick missed Tuesday night’s 5-0 pre-season friendly demolition of Morecambe, and with the Blue Square Bet Premier big kick-off only three weeks away, the experienced pair could be struggling to be in contention for the FA Trophy winners.

Experienced centre-half Jones has an Achilles injury and former Everton striker Chadwick a knee complaint, and both have had scans to assess the extent of the damage.

AFC joint-boss Dave Bayliss said: “Nick Chadwick has got a bad knee, so we kept him off the bench (against Morecambe). He’s been for a scan, along with Paul Jones, with his Achilles, and hopefully we’ll get the results back this week. We just have to wait and see with both of them.

“Jonah has been struggling with his Achilles since day one of pre-season, so he’s been coming back a day, missing a day, so we thought we need to get him seen properly.”

AFC continue their pre-season build-up with a friendly at Lancaster City tomorrow night, before the Soap Stars XI and The Bay All Stars teams take centre stage at Holker Street on Saturday.

Soap actors Anthony Quinlan and Nick Pickard, who play Gilly and Tony in Hollyoaks and Danny Miller, who plays Aaron in Emmerdale, are set to play in the charity match, along with Coronation Street stars Ryan Thomas and Alan Halsall, and Ralf Little of The Royle Family fame.

Former Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas and Strictly Come Dancing heartthrob Ricky Whittle will also be part of the Soap Stars XI.

The match will see Bluebirds joint managers Bayliss and Darren Sheridan playing opposite one another.

Bayliss will be joined by Barrow AFC legend Neil Doherty as part of The Bay All Stars squad.

Entry to the match costs £5 for adults, £3 for children and £12 for a family ticket, which gives entry for two adults and two children. Gates open at 11.30am, with kick-off 1pm.
