Interesting I've seen people debate if he actually does because he was visiting Ste in a coma. But I say he does love him as he clearly felt something for Ste before and it now probably has become stronger.

When he said the words at the hospital bed my initial thoughts were noooo way far to fast it would have made more sense to have shown some chats throughout the year he had and show him shaving his beard and becoming close in a personal way. But I guess that could still be done in a throw back scene maybe.

Chatting about what he plans to do for their first date
Picturing them on holiday with the kids at the seaside or something

More scene setting is needed or sparks for me before I believe it is love.
