and I can understand that he wants to be playing week in, week out given the upcoming world cup and there was no certainty of that at Liverpool.

The money argument is a bit unclear with reports of Barry:

but some other rumours suggesting he's to receive less at City than at Villa. Unlikely, maybe, but as I say I think he's motivated by wanting to be well on form for the internationals. Which must be good for England? Especially if the talk about Hargreaves potentially being ruled out long-term is true?

I think Villa should have sold him last year to us instead of holding out for more money.

He'd have got everything he's gained at City plus Champion's League football at Liverpool, but how often would he have appeared under the Benitez rotation system? If he featured in central midfield all the time then great, but Liverpool have real strength in that position.

Xabi Alonso has had his best season for the club and is staying (surely?), so Barry will play more often at Manchester City. No doubt Aston Villa are getting less of a transfer fee than they would from Liverpool but playing alongside Ireland and with the potential of big money signings he should have a good season and be ready for the England first XI with no questions about his form or fitness?

lol that's a good point :lol: . He might have been looking to sign Barry as a covering right back in which case everything I said is wrong :up: . Some have taken it as a given that he's seriously displeased Villa fans, but as it says here:

What we do know is Villa now need an excellent central midfielder, Liverpool possibly want to look at strengthening in other areas, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus and others supposedly chasing Alonso are likely to have to look elsewhere and there's no doubt it's a good value deal for Manchester City.
