Manchester United 9-2 to buy Aston Villa strike Ashley Young

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is preparing a £25million swap deal, involving David Bentley, to take Aston Villa winger Ashley Young to White Hart Lane.

Martin O'Neill is determined Ashley Young will remain at Aston Villa this summer and will not countenance the possibility of the winger moving to Tottenham Hotspur, despite Harry Redknapp's interest in signing the England international. The Villa manager will not consider selling Young to a club that is competing at a similar level in the Premier League and he also has no intention of accepting a player-exchange deal for his most valuable asset.

Where this leaves Villa's stalled bid for Leeds midfielder Fabian Delph is uncertain, but more interesting will be the impression that Downing's arrival has on the status of Ashley Young.

Young plays in the same position as Downing on the left wing, and has already been mentioned as a possible Chelsea target. It is thought that should a significant bid be tabled – and it would almost certainly have to be in excess of £30 million – Villa would consider it.
