Not always everyone's favourite but a Hollyoaks legend all the same, the first major female character besides Lucy had some very strong storylines. Student Ruth arrives in Hollyoaks with her Mum, Dad and brother, Darren. She and local boy Kurt Benson enter a relationship, eventually cracks start to appear and Ruth takes aome time out when she returns she is horrified to learn Kurt is having an affair with Kate Patrick, Ruth has feelings for Lewis but doesn't act on them and instead tries to work things out with Kurt but in a fit of rage Kate tries to drown her. eventually Ruth and Kurt decide they aren't right for each other but vow to remain friends

Ruth starts an affair with Lewis however Luke Morgan seduces Ruth leaving Ruth horrified when she discovers he's only 16, Lewis dumps her. Ruth decides to move away prompting Lewis to rush to the airport and Ruth stays Some time later Rob kidnaps Lucy and holds Lewis, Tony and Ruth in a disused water tank the friends escape and rescure Lucy. As time goes on cracks start to appear in Ruth and Lewis's relationship and they break up,during 'Movin' On' Lewis beats up Ruth and tries to force himself on her, he leaves her for dead and consumed with guilt commits suicide. Ruth has a brief relationship with Tony but decides to move to London. In 2003 Ruth returns and re-starts her relationship with Tony, desite Tony being married to Mandy, she gets pregnant but loses the baby. she later returns to suppoirt TOny when he is accused of abusing Mandy.

Ruth returned in 2008 for Jack's funeral(unaware that it is a scam) she tells Frankie she is engaged and after the funeral leaves the Village once more

What did you think of Ruth's character?

Her character got alot of hate but I really liked her charactereven though she moaned at times but that was part of her role. It is mad to think she was the original Osborne and we still have Osbornes in the soap today, really nice to see. Gutted she didn't come back for Darrens wedding to be honest. Crazy to think Jack slept with Dawn her mate also and she lost Tonys baby. She would still have lots of links in there today so would be nice to see her return although some fans would be against it.

Strange(and annoying) she didn't come back A) when she found out Jack was alive and B) for Darren's wedding(once again no explanation was offered-HO are so bad for not explaining absent characters) She does have links to the Village so I guess at some oint she could return, be cool if she came back with her Family as HO needs a new family
